Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus

 

Dolce 5 - 7

Dolce is a new ICYC ensemble for ages 5-7 centered on healthy singing and celebrating the joy of music. Singers will learn beginning choral and musical skills such as pitch matching, rhythm, melody, tone, posture, breath support, and age-appropriate music theory, through activities, games, and movement. No audition is required for Dolce and performances are optional.

Prelude 7 - 10

Intermezzo 9 - 13

Objects of Wonder: Sculpture for Kids Kids 7-12

Explore sculpture and object making through various materials and techniques such as clay, wire, fabric, found objects, and papier-mache. Learn about form, texture, surface, color, balance, and weight. Use basic hand tools, adhesives, and (safe) sewing. Design One: Dynamic Composition 16-adult

In this class students will learn that visual art is a language that can be broken down into discrete elements which form the core of expression and are used together to create cohesive compositions using the Gestalt theory of design. A series of simple exercises in black and white using a variety of media will teach students how to effectively use the core elements of art to create unified compositions. This course is strongly recommended as a prerequisite to Intro to Drawing or Painting. Note: Design Two: Color Theory will be offered in a later term. Introduction to Painting Teen-adult

Learn the basics of the art and craft of oil painting through still life painting. Introduction to Watercolor Teen-adult

In this class for beginners and those wanting to review basic watercolor techniques, students will learn how to paint with rich color and to make the most of a small number of pigments through color mixing. They will practice the different ways of applying paint to both wet and dry watercolor paper and will see how to convey a feeling of light through strong value contrasts. There will be a specific painting project in each class, primarily still lifes, with one session devoted to miniature landscapes. Some drawing experience helpful but not required. The Ageless Jazz Band Teen-adult

The Ageless Jazz Band began in 1990 as a CSMA class for musicians looking for an opportunity to play big band swing music, and was originally directed by George Carvel. Having evolved beyond a class experience, the AJB is now a year-round performing ensemble, featured at local and regional festivals and special events, and is currently directed by Nick Pauldine. Volunteer membership is by invitation, following an informal "audition" process, and rehearsals are open for observation by CSMA members and students. Accomplished CSMA students are encouraged to participate in rehearsals as available space allows. Shakespeare Technique for Young Actors 2 13-18

Students will explore acting technique and vocal exercises to free the natural voice through Shakespeare's texts. We will also employ movement exercises and improvisation to connect our physical bodies to Shakespeare's unique rhythm and train the whole body as an instrument for expression.
