Put on an original musical in two weeks! Experience a total immersion in all aspects of musical theatre production, with a performance on the final Friday evening. Star Search is intensive, quirky, playful and imaginative, and gives free rein to actors to invent and experiment. Everyone gets a turn in the spotlight! Our professional teaching artists Holly Adams (acting coach), Doreen Alsen (scriptwriter and music director) and Liz Livesay (choreographer) guide students to grow and thrive as a creative team while they explore their own visions of the production. It’s going to be a MARVELous August with Guardians of the Galaxy, the Musical! You might also see some of your favorite Avengers as well! And, don’t tell anyone I told you, but Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr just might be in The Room Where It Happens. Shhhh!

Belly Dancing - Summer! 13 − adult

Learn the fundamentals of this beautiful, expressive dance form. Belly Dance is a joyful, low-impact activity that will improve your posture, balance, strength, grace and body awareness - no matter what age or shape you are! With inspiration provided by a wide range of Middle Eastern music, rhythms, and instrumentation, students will practice basic movements of the hips, torso, arms, and head, which will then be combined into more complex techniques and simple choreography with traveling steps and turns.  Those students who wish to further develop their skills for performance can consider joining our CSMA-affiliated troupe, Mirage Belly Dancers of Ithaca. Per class drop-in rate: members: $11 non-members: $15 Clothing: Students can be barefoot or wear flexible dance shoes/sandals. Beginners should preferably wear pants or tights instead of skirts; this will make it easier for the teacher to give feedback on technique. Each student should acquire a hip wrap of some kind; a simple scarf or a coin belt.  The teacher will have some inexpensive coin hip scarves available for sale.

Hip Hop Expression 8 - 11

Hip Hop is a constantly developing genre that encompasses the blending of music styles and dance moves influenced by many factors which are then personalized by a choreographer. The term Hip Hop also refers to the speech, fashions and personal style adopted by many youths. Come learn choreography that will not only improve your flexibility and movement, but focuses on pushing you outside of your comfort level. By learning a series of quick/sharp movements that also incorporate different levels, you will begin to identify what hip-hop means to you and how to best express it. Hip hop is much more than a way of moving to hip hop music...it is a way of life. Hip Hop is a lifestyle that includes its own language, music, wardrobe style and style of dance. So no matter if you're a beginner or advanced dancer, all are welcome to come dance, have fun and be inspired! So, come exist on the dance floor with me!
